Raro Lae Abugo
Ogheneraro Susan Abugo (born August 23, 1991), known professionally as Raro Lae, is a Nigerian-American media personality, actress.[1], social media and digital marketing specialist [2]. [3] Abugo gained attention for being an on-air marketing news contributor [4] [2] and for creating her own media platform highlighting African and Western entertainment.
Early Life[edit]
Abugo grew up in a Nigerian-American [5] family in Baltimore, MD.Both of her parents are from Nigeria, her father being from the Isoko tribe and her mother being from the Idoma tribe.[6] Abugo attended Maryvale Preparatory highschool and graduated in 2009. While at Maryvale she ran on the Varsity Track & Field team[7] and then went on to graduate from Towson University with a Bachelors in Business Administration & Marketing in 2014 [8].
Career[edit]
Abugo's media career kicked off with an international interview with Nigerian musical artist,actor and political candidate Banky W on her talk show RLTV.[9] [10]. In June 2014 she founded her own website rarolae.com which focused on bridging the gap between African and Western entertainment. She went on to found her marketing agency Selah Global Solutions,LLC focused on digital marketing, social media management and special event production. She is also the current Media Manager in Washington,DC for Bumble[11]
Abugo has become a public speaker at universities, marketing panels[12], conferences[13] and summits,as well as curating concerts and marketing, blogging &women empowerment events throughout the U.S.[14]
Abugo has been featured on WUSA9, WJLA, 92.3FM, Radio One, DTLR Radio.
In 2016, she interviewed Kevin Hart and her question about co-parenting was highlighted on numerous media platforms internationally, including Bravo TV and Bella Naija.[5]. Throughout her career she has interviewed notable celebrities on The Raro Lae Show[15] which airs on Youtube and media partner outlets including Denzel Washington[16], Taraji P.Henson, The Vamps, Tiffany Haddish, Misty Copeland, Regina King, Adekunle Gold, Y-Cee, 2face, D'Banj [17]and many more.
Her entertainment series[18] and celebrity event coverage and commentary [19]has been featured by over 100 media outlets [20] [21] [22] [23] [24] [25] [26] including Yahoo News [27], Ticketing Box Office [28], Heavy News, Rolling Stone, Harper Bazaar Arabia and more.
Raro Lae was a contestant in Buzzfeed's Cocoa Butter segment Battle of Jollofs.[29]
