Ratalaika Games is a video game publisher focused on porting titles digitally to the console market. Ratalaika publishes new, original titles from developers and retro legacy titles that weren't previously available on current consoles, specifically games that were only available in Japan.[1]

Overview

Ratalaika was founded in 2013 by Adrian Vega. Vega launched the company while in college. Once they had received access to developing for consoles, Vega reached out to a developer of a game they enjoyed on OUYA, and asked if they could port and publish the title on the WiiU.[2]

The company has also developed its own mobile titles.[3] Their first console title was 2015's Guardians of the Forest for PlayStation 4.[4]

One of Ratalaika Games' specialties is porting titles developed with Ren'Py to modern consoles.[5] Ren'Py Visual Novel Engine is a free software game engine which facilitates the creation of visual novels.[6] Ratalaika does not charge any kind of up-front costs for publishing services, or for their expenses to be recouped from a game's royalties.

In 2025, 6 Ratalaika published games were removed from the Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop, and Steam.[7] This was confirmed by the publisher to gaming news outlet TrueAchievements.[8] In April 2025, Ratalaika released Sunsoft's Super Famicon title Feudal Bros - Tonosama #1, translated to English and for modern consoles.[9]

Certain titles Ratalaika has released are considered "easy completions"; offering quick achievements/trophies. This trend is more often associated with shovelware on the Xbox and PlayStation storefronts.[10] Ratalaika has stated that the rights to their translations in ported/localized games do not belong with the original IP holders, but with Ratalaika.[11]
