Rav (born November 1, 1991),[1][2] is a rapper and producer, and founder of the rap guild Exociety,[3] consisting of Kill Bill: The Rapper, Scuare, Rekcahdam and datacat. He has collaborated with rappers as Open Mike Eagle and Mega Ran, and producers as Potsu.[4]
Biography[edit]
Rav was born on November 1, 1991 in the Soviet Union. He spent much of his formative years in the post-Soviet Union slums, raised by a single mother. He was first exposed to hip hop in his pre-teens when a friend lent him Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest.[3]
He met Scuare and Kill Bill: The Rapper over Newgrounds and would later form Exordium Music, which would then become Exociety.[5]
He released the Hyperkinesis EP in 2012, to acclaim by The Needle Drop.[6] His release of other albums have been met with similar acclaim, as with Beneath the Toxic Jungle on Rhyme Junkie.[2]
His B-Sides & Rarities series of mixtapes, inspired by Aesop Rock's series of the same name[7], host some of his most popular songs, despite being unlisted on many different platforms.[5]
Style and influences[edit]
Rav's music often centres around themes of depression and anxiety, which Rav speaks about from personal experience, and as a "cathartic release".[2] He has often cited the rappers MF Doom and Aesop Rock, as well as the aforementioned A Tribe Called Quest as influences. Producer influences include Madlib and Mndsgn.[7]
