Ravi Kant Sharma is an Indian politician from Bharatiya Janata Party was serving as councillor of ward no. 3, Chandigarh and 27th Mayor of Chandigarh as elected on 8 January 2021 till 27th December 2021. He is the eighth mayoral candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party to be elected as the Mayor of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, after Raj Bala Malik in 2020.[1][2][3][4]
Ravi Kant Sharma joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the young age of 15 in the year 1982 and joined Bharatiya Janata Party in the following year of 1983. He spent the next 5 years as a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) till 1989 before moving to Chandigarh for studying computers in the same year. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party's Chandigarh unit in the year 1996.
He assumed office as Mandal President, BJP Chandigarh in the year 2006 and progressed on to District President in the year 2012.
Sharma was elected in the 2016 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election.
Sharma was the sitting mayor at the time of 2021 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election. He lost his seat to Damanpreet Singh, an AAP candidate.[5] A new mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will be chosen in January 2022.
