Ray McLean is an Australian business executive, facilitator, and author best known for being one of the Founding Directors of Leading Teams.[1][2][3]

Career

A former school teacher, Ray McLean worked with the Royal Australian Air Force from 1989 to 1994 as a training and leadership instructor for the Airmen Aircrew Training Unit. During this time he worked extensively in the areas of team development and leadership, particularly with the Maritime Patrol Group.

McLean co-founded Leading Teams in 2000.[4][5][6] It began in South Australia as a pilot program in 1992 involving the Central District Football Club. The squad's improved performance created interest among the club's corporate partners who became interested in what the team development and culture change programs could achieve in their organisations. McLean restructured the program framework to address the various corporate objectives and was able to apply the principles of the model in a business environment.[7][8] Then, other teams, both corporate and sporting, started to follow the program.[9][10][11][12]

As a facilitator at Leading Teams, McLean conducts team performance and leadership programs for corporations, organizations, and professional sporting clubs along with mentoring senior executives. He has previously worked with the Sydney Swans,[13][14] Adelaide Crows,[15] St Kilda Saints,[16] and Carlton Blues in the AFL as well as the Australian Cricket Team,[17] National Basketball Teams (Boomers and Opals), St George Illawarra (NRL), Sydney Kings (NBL), and NSW Waratahs (Rugby Union).[18] McLean's current clients include an Australian Netball Team (The Diamonds),[19] Sugar Australia, Axeio, and Murdoch Partners.

McLean has written two books including Any Given Team, which provides an insight into the company's philosophy on teamwork and leadership, and Team Work, a collaborative effort by the facilitators at Leading Teams.[20] He also appeared on the TV series Open Mike in 2019.[21]
