Rayagada Bar Association is a voluntary Bar Association for the judicial Courts at the headquarters of Rayagada The goals of this legal association is to regulate the legal practice and legal education in Rayagada and to cultivate the science of jurisprudence; to promote reform in the law; to facilitate the administration of justice, and to elevate the standards of integrity, honor, professional skill, and courtesy in the legal profession. The members of the bar are elected amongst the lawyers enrolled under the bar. The bar is affiliated to the State Bar council of Orissa.[1] The bar along with the litigant mass of the district have been instrumental in carving out Judgeship of Rayagada that came into existence with effect from 7 July 2012.[2]

The Rayagada Bar Association was formed around 1948 with Sri Jagannath Das as president and Sri M.S. Murty as secretary. The bar association was registered in 1952 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.[3] The bar had the privilege of holding the All Odisha Lawyers Conference in 1991. In addition to District Bar Association at Rayagada there are three other associations of lawyers in the District, each one at Bissam Cuttack, Kashipur and Gunupur. There are 130 registered member of the District Bar Association of Rayagada.[4]
Structure[edit]
Sri Maheswar Mahapatra,for the second time, has been elected as the President of Rayagada Bar Association during 2016.[5] In 2018, Sri Bishnu Prasad Panda (who was also the President in 2003) was elected president of the bar. Other members of the executive body of 2018 are Srinivas Pattnaik (vice president), Naba Kumar Kanta (secretry), Gouri Shankar Pattnaik (joint secretary) and Jagadish Panda (treasurer).
