Rayden Hudson (born September 27, 2007) is an American musician, composer, illustrator, and novelist. He is best known as the drummer and songwriter of the electronicore band Sleeping In September and for his solo instrumental piano project, nagori. Hudson has also published artwork and fiction under the pen name Reiji Hudo.
Career
Early career
Rayden's earliest documented musical appearance was as the drummer of the band From Shadows We Rise, appearing in a live performance video uploaded to YouTube.[1]
Following the release of the band's final single, Schizophrenia, Rayden departed and later formed the deathcore project Shadows Of Asylum. The band independently released an extended play before becoming inactive, with much of its online material later removed from public availability.[2][3]
Sleeping In September
In 2022, Hudson and his brother, Dallan Hudson, founded the alternative metal band Sleeping In September. The group initially produced demo material before recruiting vocalist Xander Nevermore. According to Nevermore, the band's lineup was finalized before recording its debut extended play.[4]
Sleeping In September independently released its debut EP, Lost Causes, in 2023. Following the release, the band entered a hiatus, during which Hudson focused on digital illustration, artwork, and audio production while continuing to compose music.
The band returned in 2024 with its second EP, Clocks, released on digital streaming platforms. As of 2026, Sleeping In September is working on its debut full-length studio album.
nagori
In 2026, Rayden launched the solo instrumental piano project nagori. According to Rayden, the project's name is derived from the Japanese word nagori, referring to the lingering feeling or longing that remains after someone or something is gone.[5]
Rayden released his debut EP, A Summer Without You, later that year. The EP consists of four tracks:
- "Someday"
- "We Will Disappear."
- "Our Ending."
- "In A World Without You."
Later in 2026, he released the standalone piano single How does it feel?, accompanied by original artwork illustrated by Rayden himself.
Artistry
Rayden's music combines emotional piano composition with influences from Japanese visual novels, anime soundtracks, post-rock, and modern classical music. He has cited Angel Beats!, Charlotte, and composer Jun Maeda among his primary artistic inspirations.[6]
Rayden has stated that he began drawing at the age of ten and playing drums at twelve. While learning music, he developed an interest in video game development, leading him to study audio engineering and music production.[7]
Artwork and writing
Outside of music, Rayden works as an illustrator and novelist. His earliest publicly available artwork was published on Pixiv, where he shared digital illustrations while developing his artistic style.[8]
Rayden also maintains the creative blog RANTGEARSOLID, where he documents artwork, novels, music, and ongoing creative projects.[9]
Writing under the pen name Reiji Hudo (play-off of his real name Rayden Hudson), Rayden released the novel The Wintering Hours. Development of subsequent works was later placed on hiatus while he focused on music.[10]
Personal life
Hudson has publicly discussed themes of grief, depression, and personal loss, experiences that have influenced his music, artwork, and writing.[11]
