Raypunk

Raypunk (or more commonly "Raygun gothic") is a subgenre of science fiction in a futuristic or past setting that tends to focus on a "combination of Fantasy, sci-fi, space and sometimes barbaric life".[1]

It is similar to Atompunk and a predecessor to atompunk, that also combines elements of space travel, space age, space exploration, space race. The culture and interests that gained attention in the early days of the Cold War.[citation needed]

Notable raypunk movies include *Voyage to Prehistoric Planet*, *Forbidden Planet*, Barbarella.[2]

History

Artists like Frank frazetta[3][circular reference] played a major role in shaping this subgenre.[4] The comic book series The Manhattan Projects, and the pre-WWII Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon comics and serials would be examples of raypunk.[citation needed]

Books that extensively describe raypunk are *Maliseche: El Despertar*, *The Ballad of Halo Jones*, *Dan Dare: Spacefleet Operations Manual*.[5]
