Rebecca Joanne Sargisson is a New Zealand Psychology academic. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Waikato.[1].
Academic Career[edit]
Sargisson earned her PhD at the University of Otago in 2003 with a thesis investigating the short-term remembering behaviour of pigeons[2]. She has been a Psychology academic at the University of Waikato since 2009. She also held a teaching and research position at the University of Groningen between 2018 and 2020[3][4]. Sargisson has worked with Non-Governmental Organisations, such as the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, APOPO, Norwegian People's Aid, and UNMAS, where she researched the use of animals to detect landmines[2].
Sargisson’s expertise is in areas of behavioural psychology, animal psychology, and educational psychology. Her research interests include identifying children at risk of negative life outcomes, cyberbullying, disaster response, and sustainability[1][2].
In 2020, Sargisson received a public interest award from the New Zealand Psychological Society[5].
