In February 2013 it was announced that Patrick Fugit was signed to portray the lead character of David, joining actors Ernie Hudson, Lou Taylor Pucci and Ashton Holmes. The film was intended to serve as a pilot for a proposed series on ABC and would be written by Chris Black, who would also serve as an executive producer.[6][7] Martin Campbell was named as director and also one of the executive directors alongside Black and Lucienne Papon.[8] The following month actress Bess Armstrong was confirmed as another of the pilot's stars.[9]
ABC passed on the pilot in May 2013.[10]
