Return YouTube Dislike
Return YouTube Dislike (RYD) is a Chromium/Firebox browser extension. As the name implies, It brings back the YouTube Dislike Button.[1] It does this by using a modified[disambiguation needed] JavaScript Code, and running the modified Dislikes API.[2]
Background[edit]
In November 2021, YouTube announced "To protect smaller creators, we hidden the Dislike Count, to remove attacks[disambiguation needed] from smaller creators." - Matt Koval[3][4]
The YouTube Creators video had generally unfavorable reviews, with it getting 529K Dislikes in two weeks. A lot of different YouTube Creators, including jawed, the person who made the first ever video, and was a YouTube founder had to say about this:
"Watching Matt Koval's announcement about the removal of dislikes, I thought something was off. The spoken words did not match the eyes. The video reminded me of an interview Admiral Jeremiah Denton gave in 1966. I have never seen a less enthusiastic, more reluctant announcement of something that is supposed to be great." - jawed[5][6]
History[edit]
The key RYD developer, LessWrong, developed the first version on November 23. As it was in Development Stages, It has a lot bugs since its first release, however the extension did update and update to reach million users.[7] On the official discord,[8] there is an Archive Team to help archive the dislike counter. As of 2022, there are 277 million channels archived.[9]
