Rick Mitry (born 1 October 1951) is an Australian human rights and private international law lawyer practising in New South Wales, Australia. He is a partner in the firm Mitry Lawyers, and a Notary Public.
Early years and background[edit]
One of eight siblings, Mitry was born in Lebanon. His father immigrated to Australia in 1951, three months before he was born. Mitry attended St Patrick's primary school and then Marist Brothers high school in Kogarah. He studied law at Sydney University, and after four years of articles, was admitted to the NSW Bar in 1978.
Career[edit]
Mitry practices in the area of private and public international law and human rights law, as well as in public inquiries.
Mitry has led a number of political and business delegations to the Middle East. In 1985, he founded the Australian-Lebanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as founding the Australia-Lebanon Business Council in 1995. Mitry was also the foundation president of a Sydney chapter of the International Association of Lions Clubs. He has been active in the area of Indigenous Affairs, and in 2003 was inducted as an Honorary member of an Indigenous clan by Indigenous elder, Reverend Bill Bird.[1]
