Rico Tscharntke (born 19. April 1973 in Dresden, GDR) is a light artist, inventor and cultural activist living in Berlin.

Life[edit]

After completing his apprenticeship as a locksmith and studying communication science, he worked for 10 years as a freelance and employed journalist for television stations in Germany and abroad.

3D Projection[edit]

His current work focus is the projection on spherical bodies. He was supported by the TU Berlin and the german Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs with an EXIST scholarship.

After inventing Glowb, a 380° display in 2018, he found the company Airglobe UG,[1] followed by Videosphaeren GmbH in 2022, both in Berlin.[2] Tscharntke is part of international operating KL productions[3] along with event engineer Efim Mikhlenko.[4]

From 2019 to 2022, Tscharntke registered patent number US 11,402,739 B2[5] in the US.[6] It is summarized as

an apparatus for displaying still and moving images on a three-dimensional projection screen includes a gas-inflatable envelope made of flexible material with an inner surface serving as three-dimensional projection screen, a gas inlet opening, a fan connected to the gas inlet opening and which generates a gas flow that inflates the envelope, an interior surrounded by the envelope, a projector emitting a projector beam and a reflection mirror set up in the zenith of the envelope, said reflection mirror having a curved mirror surface for deflecting the projector beam onto the inner surface of the envelope.[7]

From 2017 to 2020, Tscharntke served as chair holder of the Bergpartei, die Überpartei.[8]
