Ripio is an Argentine financial technology company that provides infrastructure for cryptocurrency transactions and operates as a platform for blockchain-based financial services in Latin America and the United States.[1][2]

The company, founded in 2013 as BitPagos, offers a digital wallet, cryptocurrency exchange, an OTC desk for high-volume trading, and "crypto-as-a-service" infrastructure for businesses.[3][4]

In 2025, it surpassed 24 million users.[5]

History

Ripio began in 2013 under the name BitPagos.[6] In May 2019 the company announced a trading platform for Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, alongside an institutional OTC desk.[7]

In 2015, Ripio acquired Unisend.[8]In 2018, it began operating in Mexico.[9]

Ripio expanded into the United States in 2022 through its institutional business in Florida,[13] where its unit OTCIS LLC (Ripio US / Ripio Select) is listed as a money services business and holds a Florida money transmitter license.[14][15] In June 2023, Spain's central bank approved Ripio to operate as a virtual asset service provider in that country.[16][17]In November of that year, IOL Inversiones formed an alliance with Ripio to launch IOL Cripto. [18]

The company has launched card and stablecoin products. In August 2022 Ripio began rolling out a Visa-branded prepaid crypto card in Brazil.[19] In Argentina, the card launched in February 2023.[20] In August 2023 it introduced a U.S. dollar–pegged stablecoin (UXD) on the LaChain network.[21] It established agreements with TaxBit for regulatory compliance[22] and with Oca Blue for operations in Uruguay.[23]

In November 2025 Ripio announced wARS, a stablecoin linked to the Argentine peso, launched on Ethereum, Base and World Chain.[24][25]

Ripio has also supplied crypto infrastructure to third parties. It established partnerships with Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago to integrate cryptocurrency services in the e-commerce ecosystem in Chile, Brazil and Mexico.[26][27][28]
