Rithika Pandey

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Born in Varanasi, India (also known as Benaras), Rithika Pandey is a contemporary visual artist who grew up in Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya before settling in Mumbai.[1]

Rithika Pandey is an artist of growing note having completed her first exhibition at the Grosvenor Gallery in London, UK. She concluded her exhibition at the Gallery in April 2022.[1]

Education

She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Carmarthen School of Art, Wales, UK (2020).[2]

Professional Exhibitions

She has had her works displayed in several galleries in India and in the UK.[3]

Pandey, in collaboration with St+art India, a non-profit organization dedicated to curating public art initiatives in India, crafted a sculpture. This sculpture portrayed a post-apocalyptic scenario illustrating the consequences of climate change where the sea takes control of the city. In such a future, there is a profound connection to our primordial origins, returning to the sea, our ancient birthplace. This project was showcased as part of the Mumbai Urban Art festival held at Sassoon Docks.[3]

Speaking about her work to Platform, Pandey said, "I was always in awe of the rich culture I was exposed to in Africa and India (and now the U.K.), with its mythologies, histories, rituals and dances. In a way, these vibrant visual landscapes embraced me and helped me adapt to the changes. I’ve grown up with the impact of colours so much that it’s no surprise that it guided me towards becoming the artist I am today."[3]
