Ritwik Gupta is an Indian American researcher interested in the application of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision to assist disaster agencies and organizations with humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
Biography
Ritwik Gupta is currently a Machine Learning Research Scientist at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University and Program Manager at the Defense Innovation Unit. His main research interest focuses on the technological acceleration of disaster response, a multi-disciplinary research topic that merges the fields of computer science, machine learning, computer vision, logistics, and artificial intelligence. He is known for developing xView 2[1], a massive dataset and prize competition for automated, machine-learning enabled building damage assessment after natural disasters. His research is notably being used by the NASA Earth Science Directorate to allow for a quick response to natural hazards after disasters[2]
