Robert Thomas (born March 5, 1999), known professionally as Rob49, is an American rapper From New Orleans, Louisiana. He is currently signed to Interscope Records.He is known for his "Vulture Island" track which went viral in 2021 on Youtube and several streaming platforms. In 2022 the remix featuring Lil Baby reached 2.5 million views the first week.[1]
Early life
Robert Thomas was born In New Orleans on March 5,1999 and raised in the Iberville Projects located in the 4th Ward of New Orleans, He was also raised in the 9th Ward(where the 49 derives from in his name).Throughout his adolescence, his parents were in and out of jail. He has two sisters and two brothers, one was gunned down in the streets. In 2005 after Hurricane Katrina, his mother relocated the family to Houston but later returned to New Orleans where he attended McDonogh 35 High School. After graduating, he enrolled into Southern University but dropped out after 1 semester to joined the US Army.
Career
Thomas started rapping in April 2020, after he stumbled into one of his friend's studio sessions. His first song that got local traction was 2020's “Toxic,” with an opening line inspired by all the Future and The Weeknd songs he listened to. In 2020, Rob49 dropped three projects(4our The World), (Vulture), and (KRAZYMAN) building buzz in the city. The same year, he also signed to Rebel Music/Geffen Records. He then released his next full-length project, 4God, in 2021 then later signing with Interscope. By the end of that year he went viral after releasing Vulture Island the tack gained major attention with cosigns from Meek Mill and 42 Dugg. In 2022, Rob49 connected with Lil Baby for Vulture Island V2. In April, he dropped a new project Welcome to Vulture Island, which has 17 tracks, including Vulture Island and Vulture Island 2.[2][3]
