Robert Frank Sanders is a transportation journalist and YouTuber who is best known for his YouTube channel Road Guy Rob. He is a radio producer, digital media specialist, with education in urban planning and transportation engineering. He is a member of Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). His channel is a demonstration of how new media can simply explain advanced traffic engineering concepts to the general public.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Sanders grew up in Magna, Utah with strong interests in technology, journalism and radio. He went to college at Brigham Young University and while earning multiple degrees in Geography (BS), Broadcast Journalism (BS) and Civil Engineering (MS) he contributed substantially to their award-winning student newscast at KBYU.[1][2]

Career[edit]

While attending college, Sanders interned as a transportation planner for Wasatch Front Regional Council where he researched and wrote up part of their design plan for "Complete Streets", a road design technique which considers pedestrians, bicyclist and ADA safety.[3]

Beginning in 2007, Sanders started work as a news reporter and later a programming supervisor for KSL Newsradio in Salt Lake City engaged in producing verbal, visual and social media content.[4] He produced "The Matt Townsend Show" from 2012-13, which broadcast on SiriusXM. Robert earned a master's degree in civil engineering in 2018.

In July 2018, Sanders produced a YouTube Channel, Road Guy Rob. Each episode connects transportation experts with the general public. Each episode subject provides an overview of transit-oriented development (TOD).[5]

In 2021, The History Channel broadcast a new historical docuseries called Engineering that Built the World, episode #3, "The Road Warriors", Sanders is one of their historians who provided insight on some of the more curious chapters in the history of interstate highway development in America.[6]
