Robert Michael Smith (born 1953) is an American sculptor, born in California and currently living and working in Santa Rosa, California.[1]

Career[edit]

Robert Michael Smith has given presentations at a number of institutions and worldwide conferences, as well as being included in a number of international articles and books, including Thames and Hudson's "Art of the Digital Age"[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]

He is a co-founding Board Director of Digital Stone Project and an active pioneer of digital sculpting, 3D CG visualization/animation, virtual reality, robotic CNC milling, 3D printed sculptures, and synthetic biology[11][12][13][14]

He has completed "Biophormatalasmith Stage One: Bio-Sculpture: Rapid Prototyping Human Biological Material for Sculpture" in October 2012, a collaboration between Art and Science with Dr. Anthony Atala of the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine to 3D print living human tissue of an invented sculptural form designed by CAD.[15][16][17]
