Robin Kester is a Dutch musician based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.[1] Kester's musical style has been described as a mix of pop, electronic music and psychedelia, writing songs about past impressions and wandering reflections, often inspired by specific moments and landscapes.[2] Robin Kester toured with artists such as Villagers[3] and also opened for Muse.[4]
This Is Not A Democracy[edit]
In 2020 Robin Kester released the mini-album This Is Not A Democracy.[5] Villagers frontman Conor O'Brien contributed to the mini album on the song Cigarette Song.[6] Singles from the mini-album were named track of the week on Radio X (United Kingdom) and Amazing Radio, have been featured by KEXP Seattle, and had multiple plays on BBC 6 Music[7] and landed on the playlist of the influential KCRW.[8] Her music has also received airplay in (Northern) Ireland on RTÉ 2fm and BBC Radio Ulster.
SXSW and Press Play[edit]
Robin Kester played four shows at SXSW 2022.[9] A demo version of 'Day is Done' has been included on the soundtrack for American film Press Play (film), together with artists like Slowdive, Japanese Breakfast and Father John Misty.[10][11]
Honeycomb Shades[edit]
Robin Kester released her full length debut album Honeycomb Shades on February 24. The album was produced by Robin Kester and Marien Dorleijn (Moss), mixed by Ali Chant. The latter is also responsible for post-production on the singles. The album was mastered in New York by Joe Lambert. In July, Dutch daily newspaper NRC names the album Honeycomb Shades as one of the 15 best albums of 2023 so far.[12] A series of singles have premiered on Lauren Laverne's morning show on BBC 6 Music[13] and charted at number one in the popular chart of the Hype Machine. The single Cat13 charted in Amazing Radio's End of the year list.[14]
