Robot Trains (Hangul로봇트레인; RRRoboteurein; MRRobotŭrein) is a South Korean TV animated series created by CJ E&M. The first season (Season 1) aired on SBS from February 26 to November 18, 2015, and Season 2 aired on SBS from September 9, 2018, to February 10, 2019.[1]

Synopsis

"The World of Trains" is a place where all the inhabitants are trains. Among them, some of the trains can turn into robots: the Robot Trains. They follow the adventures of five hero characters with special powers: Kay, Alf, Duck, Selly and Victor. They save The World of Trains from the forces of evil.

Kay, the main character, has the power to open space-time tunnels between the continents of the World of Trains, each continent being a star. As he builds one to an unknown world, he is betrayed by his partner, Duke, who wants to steal his engine. He manages to neutralize him, but the fight damaged the energy fountain that powers the known world, and several tunnels closed, blocking some trains, notably Alf and Victor, in their sectors. Only Kay can reopen the tunnels. But unfortunately, he has lost his memory following the confrontation and must relearn everything if he wants to save his friends. But time is running out: an unknown threat, in the form of a mysterious virus, hovers over the World of Trains.

Characters

  • Kay (Hangul케이; RRKe-i, voiced by Nam Doh-hyeong (Season 1) and Kim Yool (Season 2) in Korean version), the main character of the series. He is a blue robot-train whose locomotive looks like an airplane cockpit. He has many abilities, the main one being to open tunnels, which he must learn to master again if he wants to fulfill his mission. His goal is to connect all existing worlds. He is the fastest known train.
  • Alf (Hangul알프; RRAreupeu, voiced by Lee Dong-hun (Season 1) and Choi Seung-hun (Season 2) in Korean version), a red robot-train. He is Kay's technical assistant and best friend. He is also responsible for protecting the mountain world from avalanches. His main gadget is a grappling hook.
  • Selly (Hangul샐리; RRSaelli, voiced by Bae Jung-mi (Season 1) and Kim Do-hui (Season 2) in Korean version), a pink robot train mechanic who repairs the other trains in case of a breakdown. She is always accompanied by a small autonomous robot, Becky. In addition to her restorative qualities, she can also produce magnetic bombs, which are very useful in combat. In Season 2 she cannot transform into a robot.
  • Becky (Hangul베키; RRBeki, voiced by Park Si-yoon (Season 2) in Korean version), a small pink and white autonomous robot that only expresses itself by repeating its name. Equipped with a scanner, she helps Selly analyze problems. Although she is part of Selly's equipment, she nevertheless has her own personality.
  • Duck (Hangul; RRDeok, voiced by Oh In-sung (Season 1) and Hong Beom-gi (Season 2) in Korean version), a yellow amphibious robot train whose locomotive imitates a duckbill. His gadget is a water cannon. Despite his apparent clumsiness and lack of courage, he can be very useful in critical situations. In Season 2 he cannot transform into a robot.
  • Victor (Hangul빅토르; RRBiktoreu, voiced by Oh In-sung (Season 1) and So Jeong-hwan (Season 2) in Korean version), a black and yellow robot train. He has been the teacher of several other trains and is therefore respected in the community.
  • Duke (Hangul듀크; RRDyukeu, voiced by Yoon Dong-gyun (Season 1) and Lee Hyun (Season 2) in Korean version), a black robot-train whose locomotive evokes that of a high-speed train. He is very powerful and has many gadgets, some of which are used in combat, but the main one is a skateboard called Delta Planche. Jealousy drove him to attack Kay, or is there a more worrying reason?
  • Jeffey (Hangul제프리; RRJepeuli, voiced by Yoon Dong-gyun (Season 1) in Korean version), a visibly aged green robot train. He is the leader of the trains when Kay is no longer able to carry out his task.
  • Stella (Hangul스텔라; RRSeutella, voiced by Kim Sun-hye (Season 1) in Korean version)
