Anime Digital Network is a French video on demand and simulcast service that specialised in the streaming of anime within French-speaking markets such as France, Belgium and parts of Switzerland.

History[edit]

In September 2013, Kana Home Video owned Genzai merged with Kazé owned KZPlay to form a single streaming platform for Anime. At the time of launch, Anime Digital Network, also called ADN had 4000 TV anime episodes alongwith 50 anime movies and 12 Japanese OVAs.

In January 2017, ADN announced the redesign of its service through improvements and changes; new episodes were now available one hour after their broadcast in Japan, overhaul and simplification of subscriptions alongwith an expansion of the network as well as the arrival of many series dubbed in French.

Kazé was eventually acquired by Viz Media Group.

In December 2019, Crunchyroll becomes the majority shareholder of the VIZ Media Europe group. It then renamed the European group to Crunchyroll SAS and made ADN one of its brands in 2020.

Current Status[edit]

ADN offers Internet users more than 280 series & films (i.e. more than 6,700 episodes in 2020) mainly by streaming directly to their Internet browser or via an application on iOS, Android, AndroidTV, AppleTV, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X. It remains the most popular app for Anime consumption in the country despite stiff competition from Netflix and other Sony owned services such as Crunchyroll and Wakanim.
