Early life

Pressenza reports that Shrestha grew up in Bahrabise, Sindhupalchok District in a rural family and experienced the 2015 Nepal earthquake, which influenced his interest in social issues.[2]

Career

According to Global Voices, Shrestha established Khoj Samachar in 2021 as a digital platform focused on corruption, governance, and youth empowerment.[1] Pressenza notes that he began reporting from rural areas and gradually became active in Nepal’s digital journalism landscape.[2]

Kamko App

In 2025, Roshan Shrestha introduced Kamko (कामको), a public-service mobile application developed with the aim of making verified information easily accessible to the public. The app was designed to support everyday informational needs by offering services such as visa and work permit verification for multiple countries, a Nepali calendar, and access to curated video-based news and awareness content. Shortly after its launch on the Google Play Store, Kamko saw rapid adoption among users, surpassing 100,000 downloads within its first month. The platform has since been viewed as a growing digital tool for public awareness, transparency, and responsible information sharing in Nepal.[3] Nepali News Hub also covered the launch, highlighting its role in providing verified information and digital civic engagement features.[4]

Wikinp

In 2025, Shrestha launched Wikinp, a Nepal-based open knowledge platform designed to collect and present verified information about Nepali individuals, institutions, and cultural topics. The project aims to establish a locally curated “digital knowledge panel” for Nepal, modeled on international standards of citation and neutrality.[5]

According to its official description, Wikinp serves as an independent civic effort to strengthen Nepal’s digital presence by creating structured, SEO-indexable profiles of verified public data.[6]

Recognition

Global Voices described Khoj Samachar as a platform that empowers youth and challenges corruption in Nepal.[1] Pressenza referred to Shrestha as "the voice from the hills" representing change in digital journalism.[2] News24 Nepal profiled him for launching the Roshan Shrestha App and linking journalism with public digital services.[3] Nepali News Hub noted his contribution as the founder of Khoj Samachar.[4]
