The Bureau of Investigative Reporting

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Bureau of Investigative Reporting (BIR) is an Islamabad-based not-for-profit news organisation composed of journalists who want to disseminate, provide or publish information that is for public benefit.[1]

History[edit]

The Bureau was founded by Wajahat Saeed Khan in 2013.

Investigations[edit]

Transparency International Pakistan

The Bureau and its founder helped uncover massive irregularities within the local chapter of the International Anti-Corruption Watchdog, Transparency International Pakistan (TIP). The investigations led to the conclusion that the TIP's senior Adviser, Adil Gillani, was involved in political arm twisting, conflict of interest and other serious charges which was unbecoming of a head of an organization that strives globally for a corruption free world.[2] Repeated emails to the Transparency Berlin office didn't generate any response.[3]

USAID's Anti Fraud Hotline in Pakistan

Investigations by BIR also uncovered violation of procedures in USAID's Anti Fraud Hotline in Pakistan which was run by TIP. Its senior adviser, Adil Gilani, appointed his son, Fawad Gillani, as the head of the $2 million project. This was not only the TIP code of Ethics violation but also breached the USAID's procedures.[4]
