Rotoli Xaba
Rotoli Xaba (14 May 1893 - 24 April 1953) was the twenty third person of colour to qualify as a doctor in South Africa.[1]
Early life and Education[edit]
Rotoli Xaba came to the UK in the mid 1920s to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School .[2]
In 1929 Xaba's studies were dissrupted as his father became unwell and he had to return to South Africa to care for him.[3] Following the death of his father Xaba returned to Scotland to complete his studies. He received a Triple Scottish Qualification (LRCP and LRCS from Edinburgh and LRFPS from Glasgow) in 1936. Upon graduation he returned to South Africa and set up a private medical practice at Idutywa in Willowvale.[2]
