Rubina Sulehri (Urdu: روبینہ سلہری) (May 04, 1977) is a former MPA/ Minister of Pakistan in Punjab Government (2002–2007). She is now Senior Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League(Q), Punjab.[1]

Early life[edit]

Rubina belongs to a landlord family of ‘ZAFARWAL’ district Sialkot, her native origin. She is Rajput SULEHRI by caste. Her ancestors hailing from rural Sialkot and had no initial political background. Rubina Sulerhi did her graduation from Degree College Shad-bagh. She also did her graduation in LAW from National Law College, Gulberg, Lahore.[2]

Rubina Sulehri joined Pakistan Muslim League in 2001 in the wake of exile of Ex.Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, later on the same party is known as Pakistan Muslim League (Q) came into existence. Rubina Sulehri stood by Ch. Pervaiz Elahi and Ch. Shujat Hussain during the meetings of party in every way before the existence of the new party. After the military coup of Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf in October 1999 Local Body Election held 2001 wherein Ms. Sulehri actively participated and emerged largest vote takers throughout the whole District Lahore as a General Councilor.[3] More than twice she was given party MPA ticket from PML (Q) in General Election 2002, 2008 and 2013.[4] She has got the privileged to be the youngest Parliamentarian at the age of 25 years old.[5] In 2002, the party Leadership appointed Ms. Rubina Sulehri the President of its ‘Woman Lawyers Wing’ which was organized by her in a most effective manner.In 2002 General Election she was elected MPA[6] on woman reserved seats. After convincing victory in the general election 2002 the then Speaker Assembly in 2003 made her 'Member Law & Parliamentary Affairs’ Punjab Assembly.[7] She was entrusted the responsibility as Incharge department/Minister for TEVTA, which was established in 1999.[8] Due to the many circumstances in Pakistan Muslim League (Q) after the general elections of 2008 and the alliance of PML(Q) with Pakistan People Party Government in 2010 Ms. Rubina Sulehri was appointed as Senior Vice President (women wing) of PML(Q) Punjab to take care of party matters in province Punjab.[9] Rubina Sulehri also faced political revenges very after the completion of 2007 government. She was included in the first FIR reported against the PML(Q) and PPP party members. Including former chief minister Pervaiz Elahi, former chief secretary Punjab Salman Siddiq, MMA's leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Punjab PPP Information Secretary Farzana Raja.[10]

In 2004 again she was assigned the responsibilities of the new department TEVTA as well as the Assembly Parliamentary Secretary and also Advisor/Chief Coordinator ‘Hunarmand Punjab Programme’(TEVTA) between department and Government of Punjab. Rubina Sulehri's services for making reforms in TEVTA and ‘Hunarmand Punjab Programme’(TEVTA) which was appreciated on provincial level.[11][12][13][14] During her tenure about 100,000 boys and girls impart special technical training in various technical institutions of Punjab under Hunarmand Punjab Programme. Along with training these students were also provided with free training material as well as Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000 monthly stipend.[15] Ms. Sulehri on the special instructions of her party Chief Ch. Pervaiz/Shujat Hussain deputed as Party Coordinator and included in the panel for Shaukat Aziz Senate Election contest in 2003 which was held for Senator.[16]
