Rupert Webster was an English actor and musician. As an actor, he appeared in one film and an episode of a television series. His musical career spanned five decades as a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and recording artist.

Webster was born in 1955 in London, England; the son of noted English actress Heather Chasen, and civil servant John Webster.[1][2][3][4]

Following in his mother’s footsteps, Webster was cast at age 12 in the 1968 Lindsay Anderson film if...., starring Malcolm McDowell.[5][6] Webster portrayed the character Bobby Phillips, a boarding school student.[7][8] In 1971, Webster appeared in one episode of the British BBC1 television drama series Play for Today (as the character Kinder in the episode Alma Mater).[9]

Webster enrolled in the mid-1970’s at Oxford’s Ruskin School of Art, and in 1977 as part of his study program, moved to Boston, Massachusetts to participate in classes at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. While living in Boston, Webster played guitar in several area bands, including Bluestone, Sniper, and Siren. Around 1987, Webster (with several members of Siren) joined the Willie Alexander Band, appearing on guitar and vocals on the New Rose Records album The Dragons Are Still Out (1988).[10][11] (Dragons… was named the number 43 Top Local Release in 1988 by Boston radio station WFNX.)[12]

After moving back to London in 1990, Webster worked as a guitar tutor while gigging and recording with London Street Blues (previously called London Blues Band.) Webster and the band recorded Don’t Let the Blues in 2000.[13] From 2005-2011, Webster played guitar on several Claudia Brücken recordings, including Onetwo (band)’s Instead and Item, and Claudia Brücken’s Combined: The Best of Claudia Brücken.[14]

In 2013 Webster was interviewed in the Lisa Jacobs documentary A Stage of Development, a short film featuring Webster's mother, Heather Chasen.[15]

Rupert Webster died November 30, 2020 in London.[1]
