History[edit]

In 1981, Ricardo B. Yanson and his wife, Olivia Villaflores Yanson, the founders of Vallacar Transit, ventured into Mindanao. They bought out Fortune Express and Bachelor Express, both Cagayan de Oro-based bus companies in 1985. Fortune Express was renamed Rural Transit of Mindanao, while Bachelor Express was retained.

In 2005, the conglomerate bought out Lilian Express Inc. and sister company Mary May Express, its fiercest business rival and became the dominant transit company in the island of Mindanao.

Brands[edit]

Yanson Group has a practice to their bus branding such as "Transit" and "Tours" to differentiate their ordinary (open-air) and air-conditioned buses. Similarly, there are two brands under Rural Transit of Mindanao Inc., Rural Transit is a bus brand for their ordinary fare buses while Rural Tours is a bus brand for their air-conditioned buses. Their brandings are labeled at the side liveries and at the back of their bus units.

Bases[edit]

Their subsidiaries are sub-divided by bases. These are based on their area of their operation, and their base number shall be the prefix number for their bus fleets. Yanson Group started this practice in 2005 after they bought out Lilian Express Inc., and felt that re-organizing their company is needed.

There are four bases under Rural Transit of Mindanao:

Prefix Base Name Address
1 Bulua Zone 1, Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City
2 Yacapin J.R. Borja Extension, Cagayan de Oro City
9 Pagadian Tiguma, Pagadian City
10 Dipolog Sta. Filomena, Dipolog City
