Ry Russell
Ry Asa Kozlovich Russell (born February 3, 1990) known as Ry Russell, is an American serial entrepreneur, a business development strategist, podcast host, media personality, philanthropist, and executive producer.[1] He is the founder of Knot Plastic LLC, a company known for offering biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastic, and RYZAbove Media Group LLC, a media and content marketing consulting firm.[2][3]
Russell is an expert in marketing, advertising, and business development, as well as providing creative business ideas. He's worked with a slew of celebrities, athletes, and other high-profile clients, establishing a huge network that allows brands and enterprises to get rapid visibility.[4][5]
Russell became the center of considerable media attention for being featured in the top 40 under 40 list. He rose to prominence for Saving the Saco Drive-in Movie Theater and as a recognized speaker on sustainability, business development, and emerging industries. He is a Host of WeedBudz Radio and several other podcast shows including Real Estate Syndication Spotlight by GoodEgg Investments, IoT Idols Innovators to Watch by KRTKL, The Ones to Watch by Aqua Partners, How We Scaled with Jeff Brandeis Training, Digital Agency Masters with the Digital Agency Hackers, and others.[6]
Early life and education[edit]
Russell was born on February 3, 1990, to Tom Russell and Sara Russell in Portland, Maine. He grew up with a sister named Julia Russellat several locations. After moving throughout his primary years, Russell completed his high school education at Gould Academy.
Russell enrolled in the University of Southern Maine in 2008, where he spent three years studying accounting, marketing, and political science. Russell dropped out of university at the age of 21 to pursue his aim of preserving the legendary Saco Drive-In movie theatre. He received first prize in the Honda Motor Company's Project drive-in campaign in 2013.
In 2019 Russell applied for a year-long online Entrepreneurial Studies certification course at Harvard Business School.
Career[edit]
Russell started his career in 2006 when he joined Abbott as a Manufacturing team lead. He worked for over four years at this firm, during which he also performed QA and QC audits on diagnostic devices to meet FDA compliance.[7]
In 2010 Russell became a principal member of VR Marketing Consultants LLC, where he served for over nine years. In 2014 He founded ManBrands.Club, a company that manufactures and retails Men’s luxury clothing accessories including ManSocks, ties, and scarves. He left this startup in 2019.[8]
In 2011, Russell got actively involved in saving the Saco Drive-in Movie Theater initiative. Simultaneously he also served as the vice president of TXTWave for a year. Russell was successful in salvaging the movie theatre in 2013, after a two-year struggle. Russell rebranded and rebuilt the theatre into a national landmark of the industry by 2015. For this endeavor, he garnered numerous local, regional, and national awards, including Honda's project drive-in award.[9]
In 2015 Russell joined Lovesac as a business development specialist. He worked for over four years at this firm. In the same year, he also launched the bio-plastic company Knot Plastic, which provides biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastics. Russell founded this business to assist the industry in having a beneficial impact on the environment and the global community.[10]
In 2018, Russell became an executive producer and host of WeedBuz, an online media company that explores facts about the cannabis industry. Two years later, he also began hosting at UpMyInfluence.com on a contract basis which ended in 2021.[11]
In 2019, Russell established RYZAbove Media Group. It offers a vast range of services including media and content marketing consulting, media production, digital property holdings, personality services, and other commercial services.
In 2020, Russell co-founded 2 Week 2 Launch, where he also serves as a podcast strategist. It serves as an e-learning platform that helps entrepreneurs and individuals maximize their exposure.
