S. Manikchand Singh is an Indian Manipuri Meeteilogist writer, scholar and cultural activist.[2] He was a headmaster in Khunou H. E. School, Lakhipur in Cachar, Assam, India. He had published books on Meetei culture. Some of these include Wakhalgee Leikol (English: The Imaginary Garden), Meetei Ee-yek Salai (English: Meetei Clans), Umanglai Khubhamgee Wari Likhul (English: Story of the sanctuary of the Sylvan Deity) and Meetei Khunai (English: Meetei Society).[3] Regarding the life of Meetei people in Assam state of India, his work Meetei settlement in Barak valley is a masterpiece.[4]

Contributions to society[edit]

He is connected with literary and cultural organizations including the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad and Naharol Khorilol Sillup in Cachar, Assam.[5] He took active participation in building up the pan-Manipurism (pan-Meiteism), among the Manipuri settlements across India and other nations. Once when Naorem Sanajaoba, the author of the book series, Manipur: Past and Present, the Heritage and Ordeals of a Civilization, was seeking the expert opinions of the elites in mid-July 1988, S. Manikchand also sent a letter on the 25th of July, 1988 from Cachar.[6]
