SUNNN is an American indie rock band from Waco, Texas. Formed in 2021 by students Chloe Choudhury and Matthew Fisanick at Baylor University, the band is known for its fusion of classic rock, folk, and indie pop. They have described their sound as "sunshine funk indie dream pop".[1]

History

Formation and early years (2021–2023)

SUNNN was founded in 2021 by lead singer Chloe Choudhury and guitarist Matthew Fisanick, who met while attending Baylor. Choudhury, a self-taught vocalist, and Fisanick, who had a background in piano and percussion, quickly bonded over their shared love of music. The band's name, SUNNN, was chosen to reflect their appreciation for nature and the sun's role in providing life.

The band's initial lineup included three additional members. They began performing at local Waco venues like Common Grounds and Freight, quickly establishing a local following. During this period, their music was noted for its "classic rock-revivalist" style, drawing comparisons to bands like Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin. They also performed at an official SXSW show in Austin in 2023. [2]

Lineup changes and album release (2023–present)

In 2023, the band underwent significant lineup changes, with three of the original members being replaced by drummer Patrick Terry and bassist James Davenport. Choudhury and Fisanick viewed this as a "new beginning" for the band, allowing for musical growth and a fresh sound. [3]

In 2024, the band released their first full-length album, Manifestation is Real, which garnered positive attention. [4] The band has also been actively expanding its reach, performing at various events in Texas and planning to tour in cities like Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

Musical style

SUNNN's music is a blend of classic rock, folk, and indie. Their style is characterized by "groovy" and energetic compositions, with lyrical themes often centered on nature, personal relationships, and growth. The band cites a diverse range of influences, including Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Amy Winehouse, and Fleetwood Mac.
