Rehana Basheer (born 23 February 1974) is an Indian Celebrity stylist and fashion designer based out of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. She is known for her styling and her costumes in the southern fashion industry. She is the designer who is credited for bringing the Anarkali style back in vogue. Many celebrities and models like Raai Laxmi, Lissy, and Adah Sharma have walked in fashion shows[1] wearing her designs.[2]
Biography
Early life
From an early age, Rehana Basheer was enchanted by color and design. Being a family fashionista, she developed a deep passion for fashion, especially women's wear. When she began her life in fashion, Rehana Basheer produced 10-15 designs a day. Now she produces between 30-50 designs a day. She has positioned herself as a favorite among well-known celebrities and industrialists sixteen years on.
Career
As a fashion designer who has worked with various celebrities & personalities. For decades, Rehana Basheer has been synonymous with fashion design in the south Indian film industry. She is undoubtedly one of the pioneers of Chennai's fashion design craft, adding contemporary twists to regal Nawabi sartorial traditions. Known for bringing back anarkali on the global stage and making people go crazy over it. In 2001, she began her career as a designer. All she had was a love for fabrics and a passion for creating incredible designs that would outrage the fashion industry. She became one of the most successful self-made entrepreneurs with the support of her friends and family. industry and film industry. By 2013 she opened her first shop in Chennai.[3] In 2016, Rehana Basheer's Spring Summer Collection was launched and celebrities like Preetha Vijayakumar visited.[4][5] In 2017, Bhavana inaugurated Rehana Basheer's first designer store in Dubai while wearing Rehana's designer wear.[6][7][8] In 2018, during the promotion ceremony for Mr. Chandramouli, Varalaxmi Saratkumar wore a peach high-low kurta by Rehana Basheer.[9] She also conducted a gulf round-up the same year.[10]
Those who have contributed immensely to the fashion community were honored and felicitated by Zingbi. The event took place at the ITC Grand Chola in Chennai on October 20th, 2018. Madras Fashion Company and Cirkle PR and Consulting conceptualized the event. Rehana Basheer was awarded the "Most Desirable Pret line Designer" at the event.[11] In 2020, at Malabar Gold & Diamonds' bridal showcase, models wore traditional ensembles by designer Rehana Basheer, they wore gold from head to toe.[12] As of today, she works out of a posh boutique on Harrington Road, supporting 124 artisans and employees. She has designed clothing for big-name actresses like Nayanthara, Raai Laxmi, and Nithya Menon throughout her career.[13]
Design philosophy
Rehana Basheer's collections reflect the aesthetic integration of traditions and modernity as the designer who brought the Anarkali style back into vogue. The Nawabi style of her designs has a modern touch to them, which makes them stand out. The design and cut of her pieces are dominated by intricate details and a plethora of colors and fabrics, turned into works of art when unusual fabric combinations are combined. Personalized attire is designed to complement or accentuate every body type.
