Sahasrara Cinemas (previously known as Nambikal Cinemas) is an Indian film production and distribution company based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It was established in 2010 by producer-businessman Sandeep. R.[1] The production house is noted predominantly for producing socially relevant and critically acclaimed movies with bold themes.[2]

History[edit]

Sahasrara Cinemas debuted into film production through the 2010 Malayalam film Kausthubham starring Vijayaraghavan and Karthika directed by Sajeev Kilikulam under the banner 'Nambikkal Cinemas'. The name of the production house was later changed into Sahasrara Cinemas. Out of the six projects Sahasrara has bankrolled so far, five of them were directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker Ashok R. Nath except their debut project Kausthubham. Ekadasi (later retitled as Ven Shankhu Pol) starring Suresh Gopi, Manoj K. Jayan, Jyothirmayi, Meera Nandan etc. in important roles was their second project released in 2011. This film also turned out to be the last film of late Malayalam actor Murali.[3][4] After a gap of almost a decade, Sahasrara returned to film production in 2020 through two critically acclaimed social drama films Kaanthi & Orilathanalil again under the collaboration with Ashok R. Nath[5][6]. Both the films later got released through OTT platforms.[7][8]. Red River is their upcoming completed project slated for release in 2022 starring Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Sudheer Karamana & Kailash.[9]

Apart from these, Holy Wound is their current project under post-production stage. It's exploring another taboo and bold theme related to Female Homosexuality and Lesbianism.[10][11][12]
