Sajith Kumar
Sajith Kumar (born 1981) is an Indian political cartoonist and illustrator. He is currently employed as a senior cartoonist with Deccan Herald, a daily newspaper based in Bengaluru, India.[1]. His work has appeared in various national newspapers and magazines, including the Hindustan Times,[2] Financial Chronicle, Outlook[3] and The New Indian Express.
Cartoons by Kumar have also been published on Cartoon Movement[4] an international platform for editorial cartoons based in the Netherlands. His submissions on that platform often depict international political developments, social issues, and global conflicts[5].
Early Life and Education
Sajith Kumar was born in 1981 in Kannur, Kerala, to Padinjattapurayil Shankaran and Nalini Shankaran. He is a self-taught artist. After completing his undergraduate education at Payyanur College, he pursued postgraduate studies in journalism at the University of Kerala.
Career
Sajith Kumar began his journalistic career in Kerala, and later relocated to New Delhi, where he worked with several national media organizations.

In a commentary on the state of contemporary journalism in India, journalist Ravish Kumar cited cartoonists, including Sajith Kumar, as contributors to preserving the critical and independent spirit of the press[9].
In addition to his work in editorial cartooning, Sajith Kumar has contributed to comics journalism, a narrative form of reporting that combines illustration with journalistic inquiry. One of his works in this genre was featured in The Guardian's "Open Comics" initiative, which focused on non-fiction visual storytelling. The piece depicted the life of a migrant labourer navigating urban India[10].
Sajith Kumar has also produced visual narratives on contemporary subjects, including a graphic retelling of Indian naval officer Abhilash Tomy’s second-place finish in the 2022 Golden Globe Race, a solo, non-stop circumnavigation sailing competition[11].
