ThePrint is an Indian digital news online-newspaper using a website supplemented by channels such as Youtube and facebook to distribute content. It is supported by Printline Media Pvt Ltd, a company headquartered in New Delhi on 16 September 2016.[2] Journalist Shekhar Gupta launched ThePrint in August 2017.[3][4]

About[edit]

Printline Media Pvt Ltd was incorporated in New Delhi, India in September 2016.[2] The venture, founded by a journalist Shekhar Gupta, obtained funding in August 2017 for the purpose of making the ThePrint into a fully functioning digital news channel.[3]

ThePrint is noted for focusing on Politics and Policy.[5] The venture is associated with the Off the Cuff programme that is broadcast on NDTV 24x7 and promoted on ThePrint's Youtube and Facebook channels.[6]

In May 2017, ThePrint has received an undisclosed amount of funding from Infosys co-founders N.R. Narayana Murthy and Nandan Nilekani, industrialist Ratan Tata, Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the Uday Kotak Family, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Bengaluru-based tech entrepreneur Rajiv C. Mody, chairman of LVMH Asia Ravi Thakran, and IIFL founders Nirmal Jain, R. Venkatraman, Karan Bhagat and Yatin Shah.[7][8][9]

Gupta, as his position in editor-in-chief, in a letter to readers stated the mission of the ThePrint was to be "factual and liberal".[10] ThePrint has claimed to commit to its code of ethics for journalists which it has published on its website.[11][12]

Criticism and Controversy[edit]

ThePrint was criticized for an article where a reporter from the organization clicked and tweeted a photograph which was accompanied by an article on class bias in the Delhi Metro without permission from the subject in the photograph.[13][14]
