Saleem Dabbour[1][2][3] (Arabic: سليم دبور‎) (born 18 September 1970), is a Palestinian novelist,[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][8] film director, producer, and film critic.[16][17][18]

Novels[edit]

Saber, a novel, portrays a young Palestinian refugee, Saber, facing poverty and unemployment in the occupied West bank between the 1987 Intifada and 1993 the Oslo Accords.[19][20][21][22][23][24][25]

Al-Horoob is a historical novel set in between the Oslo Accords and the till the period of the Aqsa Intifada.[26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33]

Nuktet Tahawul[34][35][36] (Turning Point/Beyond the Sun) (2010)

Nuktet Tahawul is a drama depicting Palestinian boy growing up under Israeli occupation in the 1980s. The film was a the first-ever 100% Palestinian-funded production with an all Palestinian crew and cast.[37][38][39] As a result, unlike most Palestinian productions, it did not need heed any censorship and could take head on the brutality of the Israeli conflict and the controversial issue of collaboration with the Israeli military.[40] It was released in Egypt, after initially being banned by former Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak.[38][41][42] The film was shot in its entirety in Palestine, predominantly in Bethlehem, Beit Jala, Beit Sahour in the West Bank.[37][38][39][42]

Kaffa![43] (Enough!) (2007)

Kaffa! is a political drama set in Palestine in January 2006, when Hamas unexpectedly won elections. landslide victory, the following international aid boycott and the developing internal conflicts that marked 2007 and overshadowed Israeli occupation policies.[44] It focused on a mother and the sons who belonged to the rival factions Hamas and Fateh.[44]

Kaffa! was awarded the Gold Prize at the 2009 Tunis Arab Media Festival,[44] and won the Silver Prize at the 14th Arab Media Festival in Cairo, 2008, in the short film category.[45]

Al-Hayaa Ahla (Life is Better) (2007)

Al-Hayaa Ahla (Life is Better) was the first-ever Palestinian-made animated film for children.[46] It was funded by UNICEF and distributed to children, schools and child rights organizations throughout Palestinian territories.[46]

Awards[edit]

Dabbour has won several literary prizes, including the First Prize for Short Prose 2003, El-Hidzjra Foundation, Netherlands, for Eyewitness – a story on the Jenin massacre of 2002.[47] Dabbour was voted among the top 5 Cultural Personalities in Palestine in Ma'an's 2009 Annual Leading Figures and Organizations poll.[48][49]
