Sam Schmir (born January 4, 2000) is a Cambodian-born online personality and digital media professional. He gained prominence as a comedy content creator on TikTok, initially on his "sam.schmir" account, where he amassed nearly 160,000 followers. Schmir later transitioned to his "meatball" account, focusing on both comedy and political content, and has since garnered over 350,000 total followers.
Personal Life[edit]
Sam Schmir was born and adopted in Cambodia where he later moved to Maine.[1] He currently resides in Washington, D.C where he works at the White House.[2] He is known to be friends with fellow creators and activists Olivia Julianna and Megan Coyne. His interest in his own adoption history was piqued when he came across "The Stolen Children" while reading about Maddox Jolie Pitt. This led him to discover the Galindo scandal, which raised doubts about his own birth story because he found Lauryn Galindo's signature on one of his adoption documents.[1]
Career[edit]
Before his rise to fame on TikTok, Schmir had interests in photography and social media management. He created his first TikTok video in October of 2019, while he was in college. Beyond TikTok, Schmir has held various high-level roles in digital media and marketing. Notably, he served as the Director of Marketing and Communications at Gen-Z for Change where he has contributed articles in Teen Vogue[3] and Democracy Docket.[4] He also held the position of Global Social Media Coordinator at Amnesty International.[5] He currently holds the position of Digital Rapid Response Coordinator in the Office of Digital Strategy at the White House.[2]
Possible Relation[edit]
Sam Schmir is the nephew of the renowned mathematician Louise Hay (mathematician), who was his father's sister.[6] Louise Hay (née Louise Szmir) was a French-born American mathematician known for her work on recursively enumerable sets and computational complexity theory.[7] When she was appointed head of the mathematics department at the University of Illinois at Chicago, she became the only woman to head a math department at a major research university during her time.[8]
Mimi Schmir, a known figure in the entertainment industry, particularly as a writer for shows like Grey's Anatomy,[9] shares the same surname as Sam. While the relationship between Sam and Mimi is not explicitly defined based on available sources, the familial connection to Louise Hay provides insight into the Schmir family's diverse accomplishments across different fields.
