He left the startup to start his own accounts payable company IQBackOffice.[3] In 2000, Tandon sold the company and returned to India to work for Celetronix. In 2010, Tandon co-founded the company FreeCharge that allowed users of pre-paid phones to purchase minutes using their device instead of buying minutes at the store. He went on to transform FreeCharge into an e-commerce platform. FreeCharge was eventually be acquired by Snapdeal. He has served as Non-Executive Independent Director of AAVAS Financiers Limited since July 27, 2017.[3] Tandon is currently the managing director of Tandon Group, Managing Director and Chairman of the Board at Infinx Healthcare, a software provider for patient access and revenue cycle management for healthcare providers.[5] He is also Managing Director of Syrma Technology, an electronics manufacturing services provider. FreeCharge[edit]
In 2010, Tandon and Kunal Shah created a mobile phone app that allowed user to buy minutes using their phone and offset the cost through coupons.[7] FreeCharge became India's fastest growing mobile payment app. Tandon disrupted India's largely cash-based society with the FreeCharge app since users traditionally paid in cash to local stores to recharge metro cards, pay utility bills.[8]
