Sanskar Desai( born 1961) is a Mumbai based filmmaker, scriptwriter, theatre person, singer and a poet.[1] He has been actively involved in the documentary movement of India.[2] [3] [4]

Early life[edit]

Born in Vadodara, he hails from a creative family, his father Dr. Sudhir Desai a senior poet, thinker, scholar and his mother Tarini Desai a modern short story writer in Gujarati. Desai has a a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from Elphinstone College,Mumbai University. He has a Diploma in Music ( Vocal ) Mumbai University.[5] Later pursued a Diploma course in filmmaking from the Xavier's Institute of Communications, Mumbai.[1] His elder sister Sanskritirani Desai is a Gujarati poet and younger sister Dhvani Desai an animation filmmaker.

Career[edit]

Desai has been in the field since 1984 and has made several documentaries,corporate films and Ad films.[5] He has conducted filmmaking workshops all over India since several decades.[5][6] [7] He has been associated with the Documentary movement of India and has been the General Secretary of Indian Documentary Producer's Association IDPA a premiere and oldest autonomous body of documentary and short film makers of India since many years.[5][8] Creating awareness and promoting documentary films at various platforms including International Film Festival of India at Goa and Mumbai International Film Festival MIFF since several years. [5][9] Desai has worked extensively in the movement to showcase documentaries and short films on television and film festivals so that talented filmmakers can get steady work , get their dues and also collaborating with universities through IDPA to train aspiring filmmakers. [10][11]

Achievements[edit]

Nominated to be on panel of Selection Committees,Jury and Chairperson in many film festivals like Mumbai International Film Festival MIFF,International Film Festival of India IFFI, Third Eye Asian Film Festival and others.[5][12] His work has been nominated in several film festivals internationally and have won awards.[5] [13][14]
