Santoro London is lifestyle fashion accessory company founded by Lucio and Meera Santoro in 1985.

History[edit]

Santoro is a London design house established in 1985. In 1994, Santoro launched their first products within their 3-D greeting card range, Swing Cards®[1]

In 1995, Santoro launched a range of cards under the "Bang on the Door" brand name. By late 2000, sales had passed £40million in the UK, with 299 products then available under the brand.[2] Bang on the Door eventually went on to adorn over 4,000 products.[3]

In 1998 after a succession of collections, Lucio and Meera Santoro created a licensing division which allowed their collections to expand into new areas.[4] Soon the decision was made to focus future collections on lifestyle and fashion.

In 2010 after a string of private commissions,[5][6][7] Meera and Lucio changed the company name from Santoro Graphics to SANTORO which now operates under several separate labels in over 93 countries worldwide.[8][9]

In 2010, Santoro launched the 'Gorjuss' brand, which was created by Scottish artist Suzanne Woolcott.[10][1]

In 2013, Santoro opened its first pop-up boutique in Harrods, London.[11] Santoro also launched a new 3-D greeting card range, Pirouettes.[1][12]

In 2015, Santoro launched the 'Kori Kumi' brand.[10] In 2015, Santoro also opened their Santoro store in Milsom Street, Bath, England.[13][14]

In 2017, Santoro launched brands 'Poppi Loves' at BLE (Brand Licensing Europe).[15] In November 2017, Santoro opened a seasonal pop-up shop in Leeds, for five weeks in the city's Victoria Gate.[16][17]

In 2018, Santoro won the Queen's Award for Enterprise for International Trade.[8] Lucio and Meera accepted the award from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.[18][19][20] Meera Santoro featured on the front cover of Wimbledon's Autumn edition of Darling magazine,[3] in the town of Santoro's Head Office[21] and were awarded two local awards, the Merton Best Business Awards, in Best in the Creative Sector and Best Enterprising Business categories.[22]

In 2020, Santoro won the Queen's Awards for Enterprise for International Trade.[23] This is Santoro's second such award to date.

Other works[edit]

Lucio and Meera Santoro signed a publishing agreement with Simon & Schuster to produce three pop-up books. The books centred on SANTORO's paper engineering and Lucio and Meera's Art Direction - Journey to the Moon (2007) was released first, then Predators (2008) and Wild Oceans (2010).[24]
