Santosh George
Biography
Dr. Santosh George is a research scientist with an interest in parasites and viral genomics. He began his research career in 2008, as an Associate Research Scientist at the Wellcome Trust Research Laboratory, Christian Medical College and Hospital[1] (CMC), Vellore, India. In 2012, to identify the source of soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infection in a tribal community in southern India he was awarded a Special Doctoral Research Fund[2] for students from Developing countries by Ghent University, Belgium.
In 2018, he joined Yale Child Health Research Center, Yale School of Medicine, USA as a postdoctoral fellow where he was involved in developing novel molecular tools to monitor for emerging deworming drug resistance in human STH infections. At Yale School of Medicine, he was also involved in establishing a molecular laboratory to screen for the presence of the tick-borne pathogen, Babesia spp.
His work on COVID-19[3] diagnostics began at Yale University early on during the pandemic, when SARS-CoV-2 infection was on the rise in the USA. To this end, in collaboration with colleagues at Yale School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia he developed an antigen-capture assay to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in urine[3].
