sa_partners is an international urban design and planning practice based in Zurich.

History[edit]

sa_partners was founded in 2007 by managing partners Thomas Kovári.[1] (born March 27, 1973 in Zurich[2]) and Dunja Kovári-Binggeli[1] (born April 23, 1974 in Zurich[3]). Kovári studied and obtained his doctorate in architecture at the ETH Zurich. Kovári-Binggeli studied urban and regional planning at TU Berlin and TU Vienna.

The practice focuses on urban redevelopment, urban transformation processes as well as climate and environmentally friendly planning. Initially active in Western Europe, sa_partners now carries out planning assignments in various Eastern European and Eurasian countries.

sa_partners implements post-conflict reconstruction projects[4] in Ukraine and Azerbaijan and is involved in the Azerbaijan National Urban Forum of United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)[5]

In 2019, sa_partners founded the urban development think tank spacelab.[6] In collaboration with external experts publications such as Rules for a Good Urban Climate[7] and 12 Steps to the City of People[8] (ISOCARP Gerd Albers "Book of the Year" Award 2023[9]) were created, as well as two model projects funded by the Federal Office for Spatial Development ARE.[10][11]
