SARMAT[edit]

Sarmat Misikov (born September 18, 1996), also known by his stage name SARMAT, is an international artist, poet, and singer-songwriter. His music explores themes of melancholia, hopeless romanticism, existentialism, and sadness. His debut music album Burning Flowers Can Still Bloom came out on October 6, 2020.

Music career[edit]

SARMAT has been writing songs from a young age, claiming that it was a very natural process for him: “I don’t even remember how it all started.” [1] It is known that he attended a music school but dropped out after a year. Later, in the US, SARMAT took vocal classes while pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Nevada, Reno.

During that time, he decides to engage in music professionally and records his debut album Burning Flowers Can Still Bloom. The first mention of the album appears in a press in November 2019 when he, supposedly, started working on the record. [2] Later SARMAT says he worked up enough courage to bring the project to life acknowledging that it will be “an exposure of his sensations and feelings.”

Burning Flowers Can Still Bloom was released on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Pandora, Tidal, and other streaming platforms on October 6, 2020. 26 minutes long record comprises 8 songs:

  1. Burning Flowers Can Still Bloom
  2. True Love
  3. Out of This World
  4. In Your Eyes
  5. House on the Highest Cloud
  6. I Don’t Want to Lose You
  7. Me, Myself & I
  8. Escape

The title track, being the first track written for the record, defined the theme and partially the sound of the album.

According to his Genius page, the album is an introspective record that translates feelings into melodies and lyrics. “Exposure of the inner fire through autobiographical documentation with a share of artistic narration. A look into a foggy interior, a story of perception of oneself and the surrounding reality along with the story of hopeless romanticism passing through the entire album and ending in the transformation of its meaning.”[3]

Two weeks after releasing the album, in an interview, SARMAT confesses that the record is his most honest and frank method of communication with the outside world at the time, emphasizing its introspective nature.

Art[edit]

As a contemporary artist, Sarmat’s artwork is internationally exhibited. He has been a part of several exhibition projects, reflecting on his own identity and conveying themes of ethnic traditions in the modern world. He mainly uses video and photo as mediums to deliver his statements.
