On 7 October 2023, a bus left the Western Negev area as a part of an organised trip for the elderly, some of which were holocaust survivors. The bus picked up elderly civilians from Ofakim and Netivot before heading to Serot, where it had a flat tire. During this time, Hamas stated launching rockets towards the area, which forced all of the elderly passengers to get out of the bus and seek shelter in a nearby public shelter. The shelter's automatic door did not open. Two pick up truck full of Hamas terrorists who infiltrated Sderot shortly before that recognized the group shot it members from short range and murdered them while committing dead checking.[1]
The driver managed to escape with another woman, and as they were both lying at the other side of the shelter, they were shot by the Hamas terrorists. The woman was killed, and the driver who was lying underneath her, played dead and survived.[2]
As a result of the massacre, 15 of the bus’s elderly civil passengers were murdered.[3]
