Señor No is a Spanish punk-rock musical group based in San Sebastián.
History
Señor No was born in the Buenavista neighborhood of San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa. Xabi and Mikel were members of a previous group called La Perrera and after its dissolution they formed a new project inviting fellow members Andoni (previously from Dead Movies) and Imanol, who had no previous experience playing the guitar at the time. Their influences are said to vary from the heavy rock of the 1970s (Stooges, MC5, Motörhead, etc.) to the punk of 1977 (such as Damned, Dead Boys, Ramones, The Saints, etc.).
In 1994, they recorded a 5-song demo tape meant to attract the attention of the label No Tomorrow, also planned to be released as a 7-inch vinyl disc. It ended up being released as an LP record in September of the same year, with new tracks recorded for the occasion. It also became the second reference point for newcomers to the No Tomorrow label. Reviews for the LP ranged from enthusiasm to indifference.
After the release of the LP, the band's work rhythm only intensified further as they released two new singles on 7-inch vinyl discs (Mira mi dedo, and their second LP, No Mundo). In 1998, they released two more singles, as well as recording new songs for them. They also toured throughout the country and ended up releasing their third album in 1999 entitled No me hables.
In 2001, they changed record labels. They signed for Loli Jackson with EMI, recording there their fourth LP Siempre te diré que no, with Carlos Goñi (from Revólver) producing it in his studio, Mojave de Valencia. The crisis going on at EMI during 2002 caused the sudden disappearance of Loli Jackson, and when faced with the alternatives from other companies, they decided to self-publish their new LP under the GP Records seal.
Coinciding with the release of the album, Imanol left the band, with Gorka (from Etnies) taking his place until Mikel Yarza (ex-Teen Dogs/Safety Pins member) replaced him definitively as guitarist. With the new label formation, the group released a collaborative LP alongside the Swedish band, Sewergrooves entitled La Ruta Interior. They also released a live acoustic album in Le Bukowski under the Gipuzkoan record label Gaztelupeko Hotsak in September 2005. Months before, Mikel and later on, Andoni left the group, with frequent collaborator Unai (Astrozombies) taking the role of the drums and Guantxe (former Teen Dogs/Vincent Von Reberb/Safety Pins member) taking the role of the bass, also occasionally playing for Lobo Eléctrico.
Currently, Xabi is the leader of the group followed by musicians Fumai (ex-Astrozombies member, frequent collaborator), Fosy (The Snobs, La Banda Trapera del Río, Cancerberos, etc.) and Jorge Colldan (Holy Sheep, Kurt Baker Combo, and many more). Under this lineup, they have released a single named A veces no in August 2015.
In December 2015, they released their sixth album titled No Cambies Siempre while also embarking on a 10-day tour throughout Spain following CHEETAH CHROME.
