History[edit]

SeaRates was founded in August 2005 by Sergey Dzhashitov as a startup that helped companies transport goods abroad. SeaRates allows the user to order transportation online, instantly calculate the cost of delivery, optimize the location of the goods inside the container, and track it in real-time[4].

In 2005, SeaRates was the first platform to use online services such as container tracking, online booking rates, and distance calculator.

Since 2007, SeaRates has been using Google Maps to provide customers with a way to visualize shipping options and track shipments[5].

On October 23, 2018, SeaRates introduced Bytom (BTM) coin transportation and made the world's first blockchain shipment. The total cost was 74 Bytom, equivalent to about $17[6].

In 2020, SeaRates became part of the world's largest port operator, DP World[7][8].

DP World and SeaRates founded the Digital Freight Alliance in 2020. DF Alliance is an independent freight forwarders association that provides members with web-based tools, networking, and commercial opportunities at sea, in the air, and on land. In 2021, the Alliance had 1,020 members from 190 countries[9][10]

SeaRates Main Features[edit]

In 2005, SeaRates launched the world's first international freight marketplace, providing instant rate comparisons, booking, and freight management from a network of global logistics providers. A solution was also created to track the location of containers on a map in real-time, which supported 14 shipping lines[11].
