Sean Paul Kennedy Jr. (born September 5, 2003) is an American singer-songwriter. Born and raised in New York, Kennedy found an interest in music at a young age. In 2013, Kennedy began writing songs[1], putting fourth two demo albums before releasing his official debut, Tell Me, in March of 2019.[2] Sean released his follow-up sophomore album, The One in March of 2020.

Life and Career[edit]

2003–2017: Early life[edit]

Sean Kennedy was born on September 5, 2003, in New York and is the oldest of four boys.[2] In 2011, the family decided to move towns[2], which Sean says was a big inspiration. While in 3rd grade, he began writing songs with his friends and teachers[1], and in 2016, Kennedy told The Strategist that he had finished 13 songs, that he hoped to release. "So I’ve written music and lyrics to 13 songs — one is about my great-grandma who passed away; one is called “Part One,” about how we’re just in the first part of our lives; there’s a song called “Vintage,” a song called “Crazy”".[3]

2018-2019: Anyone and Tell Me[edit]

In 2017, Sean met with engineer Shaul Dover. Together, the pair recorded Nona, a song about Sean's late great grandmother.[4]. Kennedy began to work on his demo albums until his 2018 debut, Anyone[5]. Scrapping the demo albums, Kennedy began compiling his work[1], and released his debut album, Tell Me, on March 8, 2019. Sean described the album's title as an "overarching theme of questions"[2] he had before entering high school.

My debut album was the result of 6 years worth of songs that I had written and recorded. Those songs had such a special place in my heart, and I wanted to make something that I was proud to share with the world. Gearing up for high school was a pivotal point in my life, and that album was a representation of those emotions leading up to it[1].

The deluxe edition of Tell Me, released on the same day, included the single version of Anyone. The version also encompassed a radio edit of Alone at Last, and an alternate version of Tell Me, later released as a single.[6]

In November of 2019, Kennedy announced he would be releasing one more song before the end of the decade. [7] On December 20th, Goodbye was released.[8]

2020-Present: The One[edit]

On January 10, 2020, Sean announced that the official lead single from his upcoming second album would be released on January 24th. [9]. The song was described as sweet, and lighthearted. [10] The song follows Sean as he tries to build up courage to talk to someone[11], and stated that the song's themes would continue throughout his second record.[12]

All the Time is the beginning phase of meeting this person. The tracks continue to follow the story of falling in love with someone, and eventually getting your heart broken, but in the end finding yourself and learning that you'll fall in love many times again.[12]

Following All the Time, Kennedy announced that his second album would be released on March 13th, 2020, and that the final single would be released on February 21, 2020. [13] Sean said that Could You was the first song written for the album, and one of the first love songs he'd ever written.[14] The One was released on March 13, 2020, with Sean stating that it follows him "learning some pretty important lessons". [15]
