History[edit]

SenRa Tech Pvt. Ltd. was incorporated in May 2017 in Delhi, India. SenRa Tech is the first Indian company in the LoRaWAN Network industry with 100% Foreign Direct Investment. SenRa's Founder and Chief Executive Officer is Ali Hosseini, identified a lack of affordable long range network infrastructure available in India for IoT/M2M applications and decided that he could leverage his knowledge in the Internet of Things and previous experience working with LoRaWAN to bring reliable, low cost, long range network connectivity services to India.[12]

SenRa LLC, the sister company of SenRa Tech Pvt. Ltd., was incorporated on February 2017 in Florida, USA and was where SenRa began it's journey in becoming a LoRaWAN network operator in India. SenRa LLC provides technical expertise and support to its counterpart in India.

The name SenRa is a portmanteau that was formed by combining the two words "Sensor" and "LoRa". The name was inspired by the Founder's eldest daughter's love for Pokémon. Coincidentally, the word Senra is also known as a flowering plant genus in the tribe Hibisceae. Based on this and the environmentally friendly solutions being deployed and supported by SenRa, the color green was selected as one of the main colors of the company.[13]

Network Coverage[edit]

As of May 2018, SenRa has coverage in 14 cities across India to include the National Capital Region (NCR), Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Pune.[14] SenRa is aiming to deploy network coverage PAN India in 90 cities selected as part of the Government of India's Smart City Mission by 2020[12][15]

LoRaWAN Technology[edit]

LoRaWAN is a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) specification intended for wireless battery operated Things in a regional, national or global network. LoRaWAN targets key requirements of Internet of Things such as secure bi-directional communication, mobility and localization services. The LoRaWAN specification provides seamless interoperability among smart Things without the need of complex local installations and gives back the freedom to the user, developer, businesses enabling the roll out of Internet of Things.[16]

Associations[edit]

LoRa Alliance[edit]

SenRa has been a contributing member of the LoRa Alliance since May 2017 and was one of the contributing members who helped define and obtain approvals for the LoRaWAN Regional Parameter Specifications 1.1 for India.[17]

The LoRa Alliance is an open, non-profit association of members that believes the internet of things era is now. It was initiated by industry leaders with a mission to standardize Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) being deployed around the world to enable Internet of Things (IoT), machine-to-machine (M2M), and smart city, and industrial applications. The Alliance members will collaborate to drive the global success of the LoRa protocol (LoRaWAN), by sharing knowledge and experience to guarantee interoperability between operators in one open global standard.[18]

Senet, Inc[edit]

SenRa is utilizing Senet’s cloud-based Managed Network Services for IoT (MNSi). Senet’s MNSi solution allows SenRa to flexibly deploy LoRaWAN services on its local physical assets, supervise the network infrastructure, manage connectivity and control roles and access rights within a reliable and scalable solution.[19][20]

Senet Inc. is an American Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) provider for IoT/M2M applications. The Senet Network is described as "the first and only public provider of LPWA networks with class leading LoRa® modulation for IoT/M2M applications in North America”. Its platform is positioned to meet the needs of the growing “Internet of Things” (IoT) ecosystem.[21]
