Senzu or Senzu Collective stylized as 仙 is a Los Angeles-based independent record label and artist collective,[2] that was established on October 22, 2011.[3] In 2014, they released Infinite Lights Vol.01 Leyla, a fundraising compilation for American Kurdistan Information Network and the refugee Kurds in Iraq, Syria, and Turkey.[4]

Senzu is an artist collective/netlabel that started in 2011 as a community of musicians sharing music and creations and now acts a semi-label putting out digital releases from the underground. The collective currently runs as a donation based music label with plans of future physical releases .
The first incarnation of Senzu Art Collective was formed in fall of 2011, as EXP collective, the first members were Daniel Leon (Xen), Trenton James (Eclectic), and Robert Alexander Auclair (Alecks Awklr). EXP collective later would change its name to Senzu Collective in Summer of 2011.[5] Senzu began with monthly compilations of artists from all around the world. Some artists featured in these early compilations were; Rl Grime, Knxwledge, Kelela, Shango, Co.Fee, d33j, Juj, giraffage, Friendzone, Ages, Jay Cue from NRK, Chris Are, and Jealousy Monster (Side project of Danny Stillman from hardcore band Drop Dead, Gorgeous).[6]
In 2014, inspired by the documentary “good kurds & bad kurds”, Label head Alecks contacted Kani Qulam from the American Kurdistan Information Network. Soon after Senzu began organizing a Relief Effort Fundraising compilation. The Initial goal of the fundraiser was to gather artist from each timezone and to have a compilation of forward thinking music where all proceeds would go to the American Kurdistan Information Network. With the intended goal of raising awareness as well as funds for the medical needs of those in refugee camps across the middle east.[7]
On January 1, 2017 Senzu released Audi by 猫 シ Corp. as the first cataloged cassette release. The limited release of 100 cassettes sold out in 18 hours on Bandcamp.
Name[edit]
仙 is the character used to designate their work, the word senzu is roughly translated as either:
- A sage or hermit, an enlightened person, usually immortal and ageless. (mythology)
- Short for 仙人 (sennin): a wizard or mage; an immortal living as a hermit in the mountains.
- By extension, the region or area where a sennin lives.
- The supernatural techniques for becoming immortal and ageless.
