Serato DJ is a digital suite of programs created by Serato. It mainly consists of Serato DJ Pro and Serato DJ Lite (previously known as Serato DJ and Serato DJ Intro). Lite is a basic free version of DJ Pro intended for entry level equipment [1]. Expansions are available for DJ Pro which consists of Serato Play, Serato Flip, Serato Video, Serato DVS, Serato Pitch'n Time and Serato FX[2]. Both versions of Serato DJ are compatible with Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X.

    DJ Lite[edit]

Serato DJ Lite (previously released as Intro) was first released on the 4th of October 2012 and was advertised as a free entry level product to be used alongside entry level controllers such as the Pioneer DDJ-SB[3]. Serato stated that the software "allows for traditional two deck mixing of digital music files from a computer"[4].

    DJ Pro[edit]

Serato DJ Pro (previously released as Serato DJ) was first released in 2013 and was stated as " the evolution to Serato Scratch Live and ITCH". It was released in conjunction with the Pioneer DJ DDJ-SX[5].

    Expansion Packs[edit]

Expansion Packs are mainly implemented with DJ Pro, the only exception to this is Serato Play which is available to DJ Lite. Play is utilised for laptop Djing without DJ hardware, utilising keyboard shortcuts to perform tasks such as setting cue points. Many users complained about it being a paid expansion as software such as Virtual DJ and Traktor have had this integrated at no extra cost.[6] Serato Video make use of video effects with options to utilise user video choices and transitions. The DVS expansion allows turntables and CDJS to be utilised alongside Serato DJ Pro. Flip enables users to make edits to music without using a Digital Audio Workstation. Pitch'n Time alters the speed and key of tracks without compromising audio quality. FX enables users to create custom dj effects as well as effects from other sources, it was created along audio technology company: iZotope.[7]
